## Quick answer

Nginx manages incoming HTTP traffic, serves files and can act as a reverse proxy for PHP, Node.js and other services. Authentication, business rules and model calls remain in the application. Define routes, timeouts and caching according to the response type.

A project can have a public website, API, and processing tasks with different rhythms. Nginx helps organize the HTTP entry of this architecture. The benefit is to define how each request reaches the right service, with clear traffic rules.

Process overview

- HTTP Client

- Nginx and entry rules

- Authorised application

- Database or external service

## Web server and proxy have different roles

Nginx can serve static files and forward requests to an application. In WordPane's PHP environment, PHP processing is part of the stack. In Node.js environment, Nginx acts as proxy for the JavaScript application. Choosing Nginx in PHP stack does not transform the project into Node.js.

This separation allows you to think about public access and processing independently. A file route may have different policies from an authenticated route that consults customer data.

## An example with service assisted by AI

Imagine a support area that receives the question, query authorized documents and calls an AI provider. The backend keeps the keys out of the browser, validates the user and logs the operation. Nginx forwards the request; business logic and call to the template continue in the application.

If the response is transmitted gradually, the configuration needs to consider streaming, limits and timeouts. Validate the full path before offering the customer resource. A long request should not block all other streams.

## Useful features for websites and APIs

- Organization of routes to separate site and services.

- Delivery of files with rules appropriate to the content.

- A consistent public entry for the application.

- Log diagnosis and real behavior measurement.

## Draw the border between public and private

An architecture can separate /assets/, public pages and /api/. Versioned assets usually support longer caching. The authenticated API must preserve identity, authorization and error handling. Do not apply a blanket cache rule merely because URLs share a domain.

The backend should trust forwarded headers only when a connection comes from a known proxy. The original address, HTTPS scheme and public hostname affect logs and redirects. Confirm how this information travels through each layer.

## Streaming and long requests require own testing

An assistant may send text chunks as they arrive from the provider. If the proxy buffers the response, the user experiences a long wait followed by all the text at once. Check buffering and timeouts for the specific route instead of raising limits globally.

When the connection is interrupted, the external work may continue to consume resources. The application needs to decide how to cancel, register or complete the task. An indiscriminate increase in the timeout does not solve saturation of workers or unavailability of the external service.

## Investigate proxy errors along the request path

A 502 can indicate an inaccessible upstream, an invalid response or a service not listening where the proxy expects. A 504 can indicate that the wait exceeded a limit. These codes guide investigation; they are not a definitive diagnosis.

Correlate timestamps, routes, status codes, duration and application logs. Check whether the process started after deployment and whether the port remains unchanged. Avoid recording tokens or message bodies in public or shared logs.

- Reproduce a specific request and record its timestamp.

- Inspect the proxy access and error logs.

- Check process, port and upstream response in the authorized environment.

- Compare timeouts and actual duration of operation.

- Repeat the flow after correction and observe error rate.

## Size capacity for the load reaching the backend

Serving files quickly does not remove the cost of queries and integrations. If the database is slow, available capacity may be occupied waiting. Observe concurrency, latency and queues before adding CPU.

In WordPane planning, let us know which routes have streaming, uploading, or authentication. This helps to evaluate the necessary adjustments without assuming that an advanced proxy setting comes ready for any application.

## Prepare to hire

Tell us which services should be public, whether there is continuous communication and what the expected response duration is. Include the access peaks and the database used. This information helps you choose memory, processing, and configuration.

In WordPane, you can start with the Nginx catalog for PHP or evaluate the Node.js stack in beta. Advanced proxy, cache, and integration features must be confirmed for the project; they are not automatically activated just by choosing the technology.

## Choose the project environment

Compare the plans or send the application requirements to the WordPane team.
